Hi. I’m Josie DeRuiter
And, I love being a story teller. To me, acting is an inexplicable deep dive into the intricacies of the human soul. My pursuit of acting has become a treasure hunt into all the complexities and wealth that is human connection. I am a spiritual woman, and love to create stories and characters from a place of compassion and truth.
My journey started in small suburban town outside Detroit, Michigan. While some may scoff at high school theatre, doubting its credibility, I pay great homage to the roots that planted a deep love for story telling in me. From playing Lady MacBeth, to Gwendolyn Fairfax in Oscar Wilde’s the Importance of Being Earnest, to dancing around on the floor as a jungle cat in Seusical the Musical…My love for acting and story telling grew deep and high in my teen years.
Moving to LA at 17 years old has been another wildly, beautiful journey of growth. I was intrigued by method acting, because I knew I wanted to be an artist committed to telling the truth. After 2 years at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, I decided to take a break from acting and pursue my relationship with God. I gave my life to Jesus and made it my goal to establish who I was created to be in Christ, instead of being told who I should be by the industry. From that point until now my acting journey has been pretty unconventional. I have spent most of my time acting in passion projects for friends, creatives who I know and love, and even writing my own content.
Now, in my mid twenties I am married to my best friend and favorite filmmaker in the world. Our hearts are united in the pursuit of following Jesus, and making movies. It is an honor and joy to get to do what I love. While I’m all about breaking the heavy burden of perfectionism with a light hearted and fun approach, I have a very great respect for this craft. I am committed to being a forever learner of this craft, and feel eager to grow more childlike, free, and excellent in my work.
